Craig Green strives to create functional fashion. His design is based on the ideas of workwear, embodied in a utilitarian everyday wardrobe. 'My family are all carpenters, plumbers, upholsterers. My mum was a nurse. They all wore uniforms you could actually work in,' says Craig, who comes from a British working-class background. Sometimes his garments look more like an art installation. The designer creates moving puffers, trenches, and jackets reminiscent of tents and inflatable water mattresses. He combines futuristic designs with references to history: medieval shirts, uniforms of London workers, and military peacoats of the 1940s. Craig is one of the main British designers of the generation.
